Dear Signet Family,
I have been deeply moved to the current outcry for racial equality and justice. The protests in the US, and globally, are unprecedented, the likes of which have never been seen since Martin Luther King Jr. marched over 50 years ago. The cry has reverberated through social media with George Floyd’s last words as a chilling alarm to the existing social issue that has plagued the society for far too long.
We stand with our own Black students, staff, and families of colour who may have been through similar injustices because of the colour of their skin. This brings deep pain and many times no justice. Therefore, we grieve with those who grieve and weep with those who weep.
We realize fear could creep in and try to cripple us. Since we are not as “those who have no hope” (1 Thess. 4:13) we trust that the Sovereign God has everything under His control. We also know that “God has not given us the spirit fear but of power, of love and a sound mind”. (2 Tim 1:7)
Let us allow the children to talk and guide them as they ask questions. Many, if not all of them could be leaders in the future who are being shaped right now. As one crisis leads to another, the staff and I are more committed to Christian education at Signet…a place for shaping courage, shaping justice, shaping empathy, and wisdom in our children.
As we all set an example for the children, let us put aside any ill-will towards our fellow man and see each other as God wants us to. At this painful time, our hearts go out to anyone who, because of racial tension have become anxious or are suffering at this very difficult time. I am always available to counsel or just to talk.
Let us pray:
Father, come close to us. Help us to be your arms outstretched to those in pain and to be quick to speak up for what is right. Help us to be the voice for those who have no voice and a willing ear to hear the cries which are silenced. Make us a truly welcoming school, where all races can feel empowered and no one is afraid but everyone is protected.
Give us the bravery to be effectors of change and to do all this with the love you give. We pray that a new day will come which is filled with your presence and your peace. Until then Lord, bring healing and help us to have a spirit of reconciliation so that we can together Black, White and of every race, we can truly praise you and be pleasing in your sight.
We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.
So Signet family,
Join in with us by using every opportunity to help us to promote our smaller class size (less than 10 students) and safe, cooperative, kind, and respectful Christian environment at church, with relatives, or at neighbourhood circles. They can email me for an interview via zoom.
